Christian Pulisic Named To UCL's Breakthrough Team Of 2016

Christian Pulisic has been named to UEFA's Champions League breakthrough team of 2016.

Pulisic started five of his club's six games in the UCL, while he has also managed two goals in 12 games in the Bundesliga this season.

Seven clubs are represented in the XI, but Dortmund have the most number of players with Pulisic joined by Ousmane Dembele and Raphael Guerreiro.

Barcelona's Sergi Roberto and Samuel Umtiti were named to the team along with Victor Lindlof of Benfica.

Bayern's Renato Sanches and Joshua Kimmich made the XI, along with Thomas Lemar of Monaco and PSG's Alphons Areola.

Andre Silva of Porto rounds out the XI.

Cristiano Ronaldo has reclaimed his spot from Lionel Messi as the top footballer in the world, according to The Guardian's Top-100 list. Luis Suarez ranks third while Antoine Griezmann has climbed from 28th to fourth with Neymar rounding out the top-5.

Riyad Mahrez jumped from 97th to 10th while teammate Jamie Vardy is ranked 19th this season after coming in at 68 in 2015.

Bayern Munich had players in the top-100, while Real Madrid had 12, Barcelona had eight and Manchester City had seven.

Cristiano Ronaldo Wins 2016 Ballon D'Or

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the 2016 Ballon d'Or, beating out fellow finalists Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann.

Ronaldo has now won the award for the fourth time of his career, previously winning 2008, 2013 and 2014.

Ronaldo won the Champions League with Real Madrid and also the European Championship with Portugal in 2016.

For club and country in 2016, Ronaldo has scored 51 goals in 54 matches.

David Villa Named MLS MVP For 2016

David Villa has been named the Most Valuable Player of Major League Soccer for 2016.

“I’m very proud to represent NYCFC and to receive this award,” said Villa.

“It’s a big day for me because this is one of the things I said I wanted to do when I came here two years ago.”

“This is an important day in my career – this is an important moment for me. This award is for the best player in this amazing league which has many quality players so this is a very happy and proud day for me.”

Villa scored 23 regular season goals.

Bradley Wright-Phillips and Sacha Kljestan were the other two finalists.
